Maidenhair Fern Masterclass
There are some plants that quietly steal your heart, and for me, the Maidenhair Fern has always been one of them. So delicate, so airy, and yet so full of character. For years I’ve looked at them and wondered how on earth can I recreate something so fine in sugar.
The biggest challenges with this foliage were:
· Attaching multiple tiny leaflets to the stems without bulking them up with floral tape.
· I had to figure out a way of adding stems without increasing the weight — otherwise the entire structure would begin to droop.
· Creating an attachment method that was both strong and stable, yet still looked visually delicate and true to the natural fern.
· Covering all visible wires with flowerpaste while maintaining the slim, airy look of the stems and avoiding any unnecessary bulk.
So, In this tutorial, I’m going to share the simple approach that helped me crack it — so you can enjoy making this beautiful, whimsical foliage just as much as I did. Let’s begin!
